KCCMH is a certified Safe Sitter training site
The purpose of Safe Sitter is to increase the ability of young adolescents to provide safe, nurturing care for children. The long-term goal is to prepare young people for their future responsibilities as parents. The program was researched and developed by Patricia Kenner, MD.
The course is designed for 11-13 year-olds as that is the age most young people begin to babysit. Students share a love of children, but they may be unprepared for the small crisis, unlikely emergencies, and even everyday care issues that are a part of babysitting. Teaching techniques used in the course are appropriate for course content and developmental level of the students.
The course can only be taught at sites certified by SAFE SITTER.
SAFE SITTER classes are available through Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital. A fee of $30.00 covers the one-day class.
